Resorts Set to Open Physical Sports Book on August 15

Resorts will become Atlantic City’s fifth casino to be operating a physical sports book, the property itself has confirmed in a press release. Its betting facility is slated to open doors on Wednesday at 11 am, pending approval from New Jersey gambling regulators.

Earlier this month, Resorts became New Jersey’s first casino to launch online and mobile sports betting. The roll-out of its digital offering was the result from its partnership with DraftKings. The casino has also recently sealed a partnership with The Stars Group, owner of the BetStars betting brand, among others.

Resorts’ physical sports book will feature a 12-foot video wall as well as 15 television screens. There will be six betting windows and four self-serve kiosks located across the facility.

Resorts will be Atlantic City’s fifth casino to launch a sports book on casino premises. The Borgata was the first to open a betting facility as part of its gaming floor. Its physical sports book went live on June 14. Ocean Resort Casino launched its sports book on June 27, followed by the Wild Wild West Casino at Bally’s, which took its first sports bet on July 30. Most recently, Harrah’s went live with a temporary sports book.

Initial Financial Information

According to official data by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the amount of $16.4 million was generated in sports bets in the period between June 14-30. That figure included bets taken in by the Borgata, Ocean, and Monmouth Park racetrack, which, too, began operating a sports book on June 14.

Revenue generated by the three properties amounted to nearly $3.5 million, with Monmouth leading the way with $2.3 million, followed by the Borgata with $986,831 and Ocean with $192,671.

New Jersey was the first state to legalize sports betting, following the mid-May annulment of the federal ban on sports betting. The state was actually the one to lead the push for the eventual lift of the ban for a number of years and eventually brought the matter to the US Supreme Court.

SCOTUS announced last year that it would review New Jersey’s petition and issued its ruling, favoring the state, on May 14. The decision of the nation’s top court made it possible for all 50 states to legalize sports betting if they believe this would be a positive move. The 1992 PASPA ban prohibited betting on professional and amateur sports leagues at a federal level.

New Jersey managed to craft a sports betting legislation and go live with sports betting operations within a month after the ban’s annulment. The move came as another important manifestation of the busy year the state’s gambling industry has had. Aside from the legalization of sports betting, New Jersey and Atlantic City, in particular, has seen the opening of two new casinos – Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City and Ocean Resort Casino. The two new properties and the legalized sports betting offering are hoped to help the state’s gambling sector revitalize after a disastrous decade that culminated in the closure of five Boardwalk casinos within two and a half years.

CrownBet Launches New Ad Campaign to Celebrate Planned Rebrand as BetEasy

CrownBet Launches New Ad Campaign to Celebrate Planned Rebrand as BetEasy

Australian gambling operator CrownBet has kicked off its planned rebrand as BetEasy with a new advertising campaign created by Melbourne-based ad agency The Monkeys.

The rebrand is part of the ongoing merger between the operator and William Hill’s Australian business, which CrownBet purchased from the British bookmaker early in 2018. Under the terms of the acquisition deal, CrownBet is supposed to stop using the William Hill brand by October. The move comes amid a great amount of consolidation in Australia’s gambling market.

William Hill announced in January that a sale of its continuously underperforming Australian business was under discussion. News about the betting service’s eventual sale to CrownBet broke at the end of February following an extremely competitive bidding process. At about the same time, Canadian gambling giant The Stars Group bought a majority stake in CrownBet from Australian casino operator Crown Resorts.

Reports emerged in May that CrownBet would undertake a rebrand to mark the beginning of a new era in the company’s history. The company originally considered to change its name to Sportingbet, the name of an Australian betting service once owned by the family of the company’s founder, gambling industry veteran Matt Tripp.

However, the Australian business of Irish gambling giant Paddy Power Betfair challenged CrownBet’s choice of name in Federal Court, arguing that it sounded too familiar to its own Sportsbet operation and that this might confuse customers that the two brands are the same or related in one way or another. The Federal Court sided with Paddy Power Betfair and issued an order to block CrownBet’s rebrand temporarily.

The company announced recently that it would instead rebrand as BetEasy, the name by which it first began operating.

New Ad Campaign

As mentioned above, CrownBet’s rebrand advertising campaign is led by Melbourne-based ad agency The Monkeys. The new ad features two ambassadors for the BetEasy brand – Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting and actress Nicki Whelan. The two appear in a 30-second spot to announce the arrival of “bigger, better betting experience.”

CrownBet has said that it aims to set a “new tone and standard” in the Australian betting market. The merger of the company with William Hill’s Australian business is creating the nation’s third largest betting service, Tabcorp and Paddy Power Betfair’s Sportsbet being the largest ones.

Although CrownBet has already secured a significant share of the Australian betting market, establishing its new brand might not be an easy task as the space has become extremely competitive over the past several years. In addition, multiple regulatory hurdles are expected to pose significant challenges before operators and their further growth in the market. The introduction of the so-called point-of-consumption tax in almost all Australian states and territories with rates varying from 8% to 15% on local gross gambling revenue is set to be one such major hurdle.

LINQ Casino Slot Machines Go Down during DEF CON Hacker Convention

Dozens of slot machines went down at The LINQ Casino in Las Vegas over the weekend and speculations quickly emerged that those might have been hacked, Mashable reports citing information from a person who was on the gaming floor at the time of the odd occurrence.

It is interesting to note that DEF CON, known to be the world’s longest running and one of the world’s largest hacking conferences, was taking place right across the street at Caesars Palace at the same time. Suggestions popped that a conference attendee might have been up to some major mischief, meddling with the gambling devices.

Matt Anderson, a conference attendee, told Mashable that it was around 1:00 or 2:00 am on Saturday morning when a number of slot machines went all down simultaneously. He went on to say that “ALL” slots appeared to be offline or were showing an error message. Mr. Anderosn talked to a pit boss, who was not able to provide him with information about what was going on and who was “kind of panicking.”

The DEF CON attendee’s recollections were very similar to a number of reports by people who took to social media to share information about the unusual occurrence at the gaming floor.

The Casino’s Response

A spokesperson of The LINQ, a hotel and casino resort owned and operated by Las Vegas gaming and hospitality giant Caesars Entertainment Corp., told Mashable that the incident was indeed atypical but denied any possibility for it to have been the result from a hacking attack.

He further explained that they were investigating the incident and that while they were still unaware of the reason, he said they believe the outage happening during a major hacker convention was “purely coincidental”.

Asked how many machines went down Saturday, The LINQ spokesperson was unable to provide an exact number, but judging by social media posts and a video Mr. Anderson sent to Mashable, it seems that quite some machines were showing error messages or were completely offline.

The casino’s spokesperson said that so far there was no evidence that the incident was the result from a hacking attack or was cybersecurity related.

There have been multiple stories about tech-savvy bandits targeting slot machines at casinos around the world in pursuit of profit. Casino News Daily reported earlier this year police in Bulgaria had arrested four individual after they were uncovered to have hacked gaming machines at casinos and gaming halls across the Southeastern European country, reportedly defrauding them of massive amounts of money.

The group of criminals had been able to meddle with the slot machines after obtaining remote access to those and to manipulate the outcome of games to gain profit in the process. Aside from the four arrested individuals, Bulgarian police had seized a large unspecified amount of money and equipment used by the hackers.

WSOP Circuit Kicks Off New Season with 1,056-Person Harrah’s Cherokee Main Event

It was just a few days ago when the 2017/2018 season of the WSOP Circuit ended with Warren Sheaves claiming the WSOP Global Casino Championship title and the accompanying gold bracelet. It is now time for the popular poker series’ new season and not only its first stop has kicked off in style at Harrah’s Cherokee in North Carolina, but it is actually approaching its end.

The Main Event of the first stop on the WSOP Circuit’s 2018/2019 calendar kicked off Friday at the host venue with the first of two starting flights. And Day 1B, the second starting flight, was completed last night with Louis Garza holding the chip lead with a total of 476,000, followed by Austria’s Eyal Bensimhon (pictured) with 393,000.

It was actually Bensimhon who made the biggest waves throughout the tournament’s second starting flight. The player won some massive pots early on Saturday to never lose his momentum until action wrapped up for the day. Other notables who made it through the day included Bryan Devonshir, JJ Liu, Dan Lowery, and Ryan Buckholtz, among others.

The second starting flight of the Main Event actually drew 647 entrants, of whom just 139 players secured their seats into Day 2. They will be joined by the survivors from Day 1A for ten one-hour levels at the host venue.

Day 1 Recap and Prize Pool

The first Main Event of the new WSOP Circuit season drew a field of 1,056 entries, of whom 409 joined on Day 1A and 647 entered on Day 1B. As many as 219 made it through Day 2 and will return at the host venue later today to compete for a spot among the Day 3 hopefuls.

Day 2 of the tournament will kick off with Day 1A chip leader Jeffrey Trudeau holding the overall chip lead. The player bagged and tagged 495,000 in chips at the end of the Main Event’s first starting flight to pull ahead of the rest of the field.

The WSOP Circuit’s new season came with slightly increased buy-ins, so it now costs $1,700 to enter the Main Event, up from $1,675. With registration now closed, organizers announced that the first Main Event of the new season generated a prize pool of $1,599,840, crashing the guaranteed prize pool of $1 million.

The top 108 finishers will receive a share of the money, min-cashes starting from $2,994. The money bubble is expected to burst at some point today. Each of the nine finalists at the tournament’s official final table will receive a minimum cash of $29,181. As for the winner, they will be awarded the top prize of $295,970 and the WSOP Circuit gold ring.

Harry Arutyunyan from Glendale, California took down last year’s edition of the tournament, beating a field of 1,022 entries and taking home the amount of $283,597 in prize money.

Belarus Legalizes Online Casinos with Presidential Decree

Belarus Legalizes Online Casinos with Presidential Decree

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree under which online gambling is now legal in the country, Belarusian state-run media outlet BelTA reported on Wednesday. Citing Lukashenko’s press service, the website says that the document is part of a new legislation aiming at improving the regulation of the gambling industry in Belarus.

The decree, signed by president Lukashenko on August 7, allows gambling operations to be conducted on the Internet by licensed establishments. For the first time in the history of the small Eastern European country, online casinos will be able to legally offer their services to Belorussian citizens. The document includes various licensing specifics and new taxation laws that would require gambling operators, whether online casinos or land-based gaming parlors, to meet strict criteria.

The first change set by the legislation includes increasing the minimum gambling age from 18 to 21. This applies to both virtual and brick-and-mortar casinos and aims at minimizing the negative effects and potential threats of gambling. Parlors are required to install video surveillance systems, while visitors in these establishments will no longer be allowed to lend money to other people who want to gamble. Along with the new rules land-based casinos need to comply with, the decree also includes many conditions that online gambling operators need to meet before they can be granted a license.

Organizers of online gambling operations will have to make a guarantee deposit of no exact amount that would cover payouts of customer winnings, taxes, and other payments in case of insolvency. All users who register accounts and play for real money at Internet-based casinos will undergo identity checks. Interestingly, tax authorities will have to receive a remote access to online casinos, although it is not clear what exactly this access would include. In addition, all casinos will have to join a special payments network where all money flows will be monitored by the authorities.

Online Gambling to Help Diversify the Belorussian Economy

According to BelTA, the Belorussian Telegraph Agency, the new decree would cut down the outflow of money to offshore gambling websites. Local players’ access to foreign gaming and betting platforms is expected to become much more limited due to the new requirements. As a result, Belorussian operators should see increased revenues, boosted by the proposed reduction in tax rates. According to the provisions, planned by the government, operators who use gambling equipment of any kind only temporarily (less than 15 days in the tax period) will need to pay a tax that is roughly 50 percent of the current rate.

This move should stimulate businesses to conduct short-term gambling operations such as poker tournaments, games during weekends, etc. More importantly, the new regulations and the introduction of online gambling in the country are expected to help diversify the Belorussian economy, which has been dominated by manufacturing for years. With the latest changes, the government is trying to avoid overregulation and encourage the opening of new gambling operations in land-based facilities and on the Internet.

By stimulating this sector, it is hoped that the country would boost the tourism significantly. Currently, it accounts for approximately 1 percent of the entire economy of Belarus and some experts believe that this percentage could easily be pushed to 5% in the next few years.

Philippine President Vows to Block All New Casino Projects in the Country

Philippine President Vows to Block All New Casino Projects in the Country

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has reiterated his commitment to prevent any new casino resort projects from materialization in the country just a day after he said he would block the construction of Landing International Development’s $1.5-billion integrated resort in the Manila Bay area.

The Hong Kong-listed company received earlier this year a provisional license from PAGCOR, the Philippine gambling regulator, to build and operate an integrated resort in Entertainment City, a larger gaming, accommodation, and entertainment scheme in the Manila Bay area introduced by the country’s government late last decade and aiming to boost the local tourism industry.

Landing broke ground on its project yesterday, but shortly after a spokesperson for President Duterte announced that the country’s top official had no intention to allow the project’s materialization.

The Philippine President himself said today during a speech at the 117th Police Service Anniversary celebration in Quezon City that he hates gambling and that he would not authorize the construction of new casinos in the country. The official further advised that interested developers should better look for “something more enticing”.

President Sacks Nayong Pilipino Foundation Board

It also emerged yesterday that President Duterte has fired the entire board of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation as part of his efforts to prevent the controversial casino resort project from being carried out.

The foundation was established back in 1972 with a Presidential Decree to run the Nayong Pilipino cultural theme park in Pasay, Metro Manila. Landing has secured a 75-year lease agreement with the foundation as part of its pursuit of expansion in the Philippines.

However, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said yesterday that the President found the deal particularly disadvantageous, to a great extent due to its 75-year term. President Duterte himself said that a 75-year lease for the operation of a casino resort was not something he would allow.

Price-tagged at $1.5 billion, the NayonLanding integrated resort would have featured a casino gambling facility with 239 slot machines and 155 gaming tables, several hotels with a combined of more than 1,500 rooms and suites, a convention center, water parks and other entertainment options, and a number of food and beverage facilities, among others.

Landing said during the property’s groundbreaking ceremony that it expected it to attract between two and three million visitors per year. The resort was expected to open doors at some point in 2022, under the terms of the developer’s license from PAGCOR. An earlier opening date would have not been possible as under a February 2017 resolution, no casino resorts should be launched in or near Entertainment City until 2022, so that the area’s gambling industry has enough time to “mature”. At present, there are three operational resorts in Entertainment City and a fourth one is slated to launch in the early 2020s.

Following the comments made by President Duterte’s spokesman on his behalf, Landing said yesterday that its project would push through as the lease contract for the property “was valid and effective”.

Twin River Announces August 28 Closure Date for Newport Casino

Twin River Announces August 28 Closure Date for Newport Casino

Twin River Management Group has confirmed a closing date for its Newport Grand Casino in Newport, Rhode Island. The property is slated to be shuttered on August 28 and its gaming license will be transferred to the company’s newly built Twin River Tiverton Casino in Tiverton, Rhode Island.

The latter property is scheduled to hold its grand opening on September 1, or a month ahead of its originally planned launch.

Twin River’s new hotel and casino complex will feature a gaming floor occupying 100,000 square feet with 1,000 slot machines and 31 table games, as well as multiple dining facilities, a parking garage, and an 84-room hotel, among other facilities. As mentioned above, the Twin River Tiverton property will operate under a license previously belonging to the Newport Grand Casino.

Twin River originally planned to invest $75 million into its property, but upped its investment later on to eventually spend $140 million. Earlier this year, the company received regulatory approval to operate gambling around the clock at its Tiverton property. Alcohol will not be served during overnight hours.

The Tiverton Town Council approved in May the around-the-clock provision of gambling services at the new gambling venue for a period of one year under a pilot program. Owners of the property will be required to present town officials with quarterly reports on public safety and the impact the casino operations have on the local community. After the one-year pilot program is completed, town officials will conduct a review to determine whether the around-the-clock provision of gambling services will be kept or the hours during which visitors will be able to gamble at the property will be reduced.

Dover Downs Merger

Aside from the upcoming closure of its Newport property and the launch of its Tiverton one, Twin River and its parent company Twin River Worldwide Holdings will also be busy completing its recently announced merger with another gaming and entertainment company.

News emerged last month that Twin River would combine its operations with Dover Downs Gaming & Entertainment amid a massive consolidation wave within the US casino and gambling space and following the recent annulment of a long-standing ban on the provision of sports betting in the United Statesbu the US Supreme Court.

The deal will see Twin River, which is a private company, become a publicly traded entity. It will also allow the hotel and casino operator expand across additional states and leverage on Dover Downs’ experience in sports betting as it has been operating in Delaware, one of the few states where this type of activity was legal before the SCOTUS ruling from earlier this year. The two companies will thus be better positioned to adjust to the changing US gambling environment.

The deal is subject to approvals from regulators where the two companies operate properties as well as to other customary closing conditions.

Poker Tournaments Starting August 6-12

August has arrived with all the happy days full of cold drinks and barefoot beach walks. But a poker player would, among other things, be interested to know where the hottest poker events will take place. The upcoming week has a lot to offer in that regard and Casino News Daily has picked four of the most interesting poker festivals set to kick off in the coming days. South Korea, the Czech Republic, Las Vegas, and Minnesota are four of the poker destinations worth heading to this week. Here is more about some of this week’s most exciting poker events.

APT Korea Championships

Paradise City Hotel & Resort in Incheon, South Korea will play host to the next APT installment. The festival is set to run from August 8 through August 19. Its schedule features 22 different tournaments with buy-ins varying from KRW165,000 (approximately $148) to KRW16 million (approximately $14,368).

The festival will kick off with two No-Limit Hold’em tournaments, a KRW330,000 one and the highest buy-in one on the APT Korea Championships schedule (KRW16 million). Aside from those two, there will be multiple other Texas Hold’em and Omaha opportunities for players over the course of the major poker event.

The four-day Main Event is slated for August 15-18 and will feature two starting flights and two more days of play. Interested players will be able to enter it by paying a buy-in fee of KRW1,650,000.

MSPT Regional Minnesota

The next MSPT Regional event is scheduled for August 8-12 and will be played at Canterbury Park Racetrack & Card Club in Shakopee, Minnesota. The $350 buy-in Main Event will feature a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000 that would quite certainly be crashed, given the popularity of the MSPT events.

Starting August 8, interested players will be able to enter the tournament during one of the four starting flights scheduled to take place within the Main Event. There will also be an additional fourth day of action, during which the champion will be determined.

partypoker Grand Prix Germany

Jumping to Europe, partypoker’s next live festival is just days away and is full of thrilling opportunities for players from all around the continent and those visiting. The partypoker Grand Prix Germany is slated for August 9-13, bringing once again quality poker action to Europe’s hottest poker arena King’s Casino in Rozvadov, the Czech Republic.

The festival’s schedule includes five tournaments and multiple satellites to the €220 Main Event. That latter event will begin on August 9 with the first of six starting flights. It will feature two more days of play and will end on August 13, when the final table will be played. The Main Event will offer a guaranteed prize pool of €500,000.

Another highlight tournament will be the €550 High Roller with a guaranteed prize pool of €200,000. It will take place on August 12.

August Extravaganza

Back to the States and hot Las Vegas, The Venetian Hotel and Casino will be hosting the August Extravaganza festival between August 9 and August 19. Its schedule includes 17 tournaments, varying in buy-in fees and structures. Most of the tournaments will be single-day ones, with a three-day $340 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em DoubleStack with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000 and the Main Event being the only two exceptions.

The $250 buy-in Main Event will be spanning over six days, starting August 14. It will feature five starting flights and one more day of play. Players will contend for a share of the $200,000 guaranteed prize pool that might well be exceeded once action gets under way.

Lou Garza Comes Into WPT Choctaw Main Event Day 2 as Overall Chip Leader

The second starting flight of the WPT Choctaw Main Event was played on Saturday at the host casino. Day 1B of the tournament drew 476 entries to bring the total field to 755 participants. Lou Garza ended that second starting flight as the chip leader and was one of the 137 players to advance into Day 2 of the Main Event.

Garza has no previous cashes from the WPT, but if he keeps his momentum into the second day of play, he could well make it to one of the paid places or even scoop the title. However, this would not be an easy task as there were many seasoned poker pros to advance into Day 2.

Garza collected 531,500 in chips last night after surviving all the levels scheduled for Day 1B. The player cemented his leading position late into the night by winning two major pots, one of which saw him play against Mark Threadgill. The latter’s [Kc][Jc] clashed into Garza’s [10s][9h] on a [Kh][Jh][8c][Ad][7s] board.

The second important hand involved Garza and Ralph Massey. Massey moved all in with [Ad][7s], but his opponent’s [Ac][Kh] held up.

Here it is also important to note that Garza will enter Day 2 of the Main Event as the overall chip leader from the two starting flights. Viet Vo lead the way after Day 1A, but he is well behind Garza with his stack of 458,500 in chips.

More Highlights from the WPT Choctaw Championship

As mentioned above, Day 1B of the event brought 476 entries to the felt. As many as 279 entrants registered on Day 1A. The tournament’s overall field thus reached 755 contenders who created a prize pool of $2,548,225. The top 95 finishers will get paid, with min-cashes being worth $5,865. The winner will take home the amount of $469,185 for their accomplishment.

Combined, as many as 207 players manged to secure their seats into Day 2 of the event. They will resume play at noon local time today and the plan is to play to the final 32. This means that the money bubble will burst at some point. Organizers have announced that an action clock would be brought at the tables once play is one table away from the bubble burst.

Andy Van Blair and former WPT Main Event champion Tony Ruberto were among the players to bag the largest stacks on Day 1B. Coming into Day 2 with 201,000 in chips, three-time WPT champ Anthony Zinno will take a shot at a fourth title from the series. The winner of the inaugural WPT Choctaw Main Event, Jason Brin, will too return for Day 2 action with 206,000

There were also many notables who did not make it through Day 1B. Former WPT champions Layne Flack, Seth Davies, and James Romero were few of these.

Viet Vo Leads after WPT Choctaw Main Event Day 1A

Viet Vo from Texas is leading after the first starting flight of the WPT Choctaw $3,700 Main Event. The event began Friday at Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant, Oklahoma with twelve levels of play.

As many as 279 entries registered into the tournament on Day 1A, but only 70 of them survived through the end to bag and tag for the night. They will all go back at the host venue for Day 2, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

Vo put 458,500 worth of chips into his bag last night. The player cemented his chip leader position late on Day 1A by winning a key pot with pocket kings to an opponent’s ace-jack. Prior to jumping into this year’s edition of the WPT Choctaw, Vo had over $1 million in chips and two previous WPT in-the-money finishes. It is yet to be seen whether the Day 1A chip leader will be able to scoop a third cash from the popular poker series and to even win his first-ever WPT title.

Brady Holiman finished second in chips last night, not far behind Vo with his 440,000. Randy Skeel took the third largest stack into the night with 395,000. The reigning WPT Season XVI Player of the Year Art Papazyan bagged and tagged 385,000 and Men Nguyen, who came fresh off a third place in the WPT Gardens Main Event, collected 365,500 last night to round out the top five chip counts of Day 1A.

Cada Out

Former WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Cada entered the WPT Choctaw yesterday, but busted shortly before the end of the day. Cada topped the field of the world’s most prestigious tournament in 2009. What is more, he was really close to repeat that deed this summer, but eventually placed 5th. Cada as well as all the players who busted on Day 1A of the WPT Choctaw Main Event will have the chance to re-enter it later today.

There were quite some notables to make it through the first starting flight, including several former WPT champions. Darren Elias, Chris Moorman, Brian Altman, and Marvin Rettenmaier were some of these players. They will all return for Day 2. Reigning champion Jay Lee, too, survived through the day, bagging 73,000 in chips to continue his run for a back-to-back WPT Choctaw title.

Day 1B is scheduled to kick off today at noon local time. Participants will play 12 levels and registration will remain open until the start of Level 11.

As mentioned above, the Day 1A field counted 279 entries, of whom 70 made it to the very end. The tournament features a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. The guarantee is really close to be cracked and it is to be seen how much the prize pool will eventually amount to and how much the winner will scoop.

Bruno Fitoussi Becomes Latest partypoker Brand Ambassador

Frenchman Bruno Fitoussi has joined the cluster of partypoker brand ambassadors to promote the poker operator’s live events across Europe. News about his new role arrive just a few months after his fellow countryman, Bertrand Elky Grospellier, was assigned a similar promotional task by the GVC Holdings-owned major poker brand.

Fitoussi’s first outing as a brand ambassador will be during the upcoming MILLIONS UK at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham. The live poker festival is set to kick off on September 29 at the host venue with £8.5 million in guaranteed prize money, including a guaranteed prize pool of £5 million for the Main Event. Fitoussi will also participate in the Caribbean Poker Party and WPT Deepstacks later this year as part of his new role.

With decades of experience in the poker industry and participation in some of the world’s largest live poker tournaments, Fitoussi will share player feedback with partypoker’s LIVE team to help the operator shape festival schedules and related poker products for Europe.

As mentioned above, the French poker pro is joining another player from his homeland, Grospellier, as well as a number of poker pros who have become partypoker ambassadors since the beginning of the year. Few of these include Ludovic Geilich, Isaac Haxton, and Philipp Gruissem.

The Man Who Brought Poker to France

Fitoussi has been generally recognized as the person who brought and popularized the game of poker in his homeland and across Europe. He introduced the game to French public back in the 1990s at the Aviation Club de France, which has gradually turned into one of France’s premium live poker destinations.

Fitoussi has been a commentator on a number of poker events on many different television shows over the years to further accumulate experience and build a reputation as one of poker’s most notable personalities.

The Frenchman has received four WSOP Hall of Fame nominations and was honored last year by the World Poker Tour for his contributions to the game of poker. Last summer, Fitoussi was presented with the WPT Honors Award along with Mike Sexton, who was appointed as Chairman of partypoker last spring.

It was namely Fitoussi who introduced the WPT brand to France’s poker community. During its first season, the major live tournament brand traveled to the country for the Euro Finals of Poker. Fitoussi became the face of the WPT brand on French television shortly after.

As for Fitoussi’s live poker accomplishments, he boasts live tournament earnings of nearly $3 million. In 2001, the French player won the inaugural World Heads-Up Poker Championship, emerging victorious over Amarillo Preston in the final. Fitoussi has a 15th-place finish in the 2003 WSOP Main Event and a runner-up finish in the 2007 WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. (now known as the Players Championship). Fitoussi finished second to Kassem Deeb to collect his career’s largest cash of $1,278,720.
